The pig

Pigs are more than sausage and South Tyrolean bacon.
Our domestic pig comes from wild boar and is one of the oldest pets in the history of human civilization. On most farms pigs are kept. In the South Tyrolean cuisine can on pork, z. B bacon dumplings, slag of Törggelen.
The pig family consists of boar (male), sow (female) and piglets (young). The pig can grow up to 2.0 m long and weigh up to 130 kg. It is up to 12 years old.
Typical is the long, flexible trunk with large nostrils, with which the pig can smell very well. Pigs have small eyes and look very bad with them, but they hear all the better with their big and pointed ears.
The animal is a passionate omnivore, it grunts and smacks loud and it exterminates large quantities. After that it has to keep a longer digestive sleep.
Pigs do not sweat "like a pig". They wallow extensively in the mud or water to cool them down and so a dirt crust protects the sensitive hairless skin from parasites.

The mother sows give birth to three to eighteen piglets twice a year after a gestation period of 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days, naturally nursed for about 15 weeks. During feeding, the sow grunts a bit with the piglets. They communicate constantly with each other.
Some Rittner farms are breeding with piglets.
German Phrases like:
"Stupid pigs" are not justified: pigs are almost as smart as dolphins.
"He had a pig" means that someone has had unexpected and undeserved luck. Who lost a game in the Middle Ages, got a piglet as a consolation prize.
